Summer Common Reading Initiative

Welcome new students!

The 2009 Summer Common Reading Initiative provides students with opportunities to:

  • Interact and establish relationships with faculty and peers
  • Gain a better understanding of the college classroom environment and faculty expectations
  • Share a common reading experience and participate in discussion

Who participates and how should students prepare?

New freshmen and new transfer students who are admitted to the University in one of the following majors are expected to participate.

Students will read the book selected by their department and review the discussion questions prior to attending the Academic Department Meeting that will be held during Passages Welcome Weekend on Friday, August 14, 2009 from 9:45-10:30 a.m. During the Passages Academic Department Meetings students will engage in discussion about the book with fellow students and faculty.

More information about the Passages program, including Department meeting locations, will be available in the Passages materials students will receive during the check-in process at the residence halls in August. More information is available on the Passages web site.

Books are available at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore located on the second floor of the Bone Student Center for a discounted price. You may also find them online, at your local library or at bookstores in your local area.
